Client located in the DesPlaines area is currently seeking a Cognos BI Developer responsible for designing, developing and supporting both Cognos report and Cognos ETL solutions. The position will also assist with servicing user requests and Cognos application maintenance activities. The position will interact very closely with other team members, offshore resources, and business users.

Position Responsibilities may include, but not limited to:

• Responsible for developing and testing Cognos reports
• Responsible for debugging, monitoring, and troubleshooting Cognos reports and Cognos ETL applications
• Responsible for servicing user requests and application maintenance activities
• Interacting with other BI team members, offshore team members, and cross-IT staff on support and project activities

Requirements:

• 4 year degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or in a related discipline
• At least 4 years of relevant work experience
• At least 2 years of BI solution development experience

• Ability to create, modify, and deploy Cognos reports using Cognos Report Studio

This position is responsible for developing and maintaining a portfolio of reports from multiple enterprise database systems. for developing reporting solutions with a focus on managed and ad hoc reports using Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SRSS) and/or maintaining and migrating Crystal Reports. The Report Writer will work with representatives from the lines of business to develop report specifications, implement such requests in SSRS using SQL Server. This position requires subject matter expertise in business functions and practices as well as experience gathering requirements directly from end-user groups. This hands-on role requires focused attention to detail so as to ensure that systems of high availability and scalability as needed by the organization and its business partners are fully functional and operating 24x7. This role requires the capability to respond and support the production reporting systems in a timely and cost effective manner. This role requires an adequate understanding of complex large-scale data models for enterprise systems and the underlying business processes. This role also requires the ability to communicate effectively with end-users, team members, management, and external customers.

FUNCTIONS:

Develops reports of varying size and complexity from user requirements

Evaluates capabilities and limitations of new and existing technical tools and systems

Recommends improvements to current processes and reporting capabilities

Acts as liaison between systems users and internal and/or external information technology groups

Plan, develop and create reports on SQL Server databases using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)

Implement report writing policies and apply report writing best practices

Integrate data from other sources (SSIS) into SSRS and reports authored in other technologies

Assist in completing hardware and software platform upgrades and migration

Assist in maintaining and enhancing database performance

Provide information by collecting, analysing, and summarizing database performance and trends

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

B.S. in Computer Science or Information Systems, or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.

Experience:

4+ years experience as a SQL Report Writer using Microsoft SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio

Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles and practices

Strong experience in designing and implementing reports using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)

Strong understanding of writing stored procedures, triggers, user functions, views and indexes

Experience with Crystal Reports in an enterprise-level production environment

Experience with development and deployment in a data-warehousing environment

Strong knowledge of Windows Server 2005/2008

Strong knowledge of software engineering project life cycle and best practices

Experience in SharePoint a plus

Experience in healthcare industry a plus

Experience in the .NET programming languages (VB.NET or C#) a plus

Experience with Great Plains a plus

The Information & Data Consultant supports 2 IM/IT Managers to shape strategy, identify and frame opportunities and develop long term plans for the business.

This includes business case development, scoping, investment proposals, writing charters and terms of reference and mapping of process, information and data flows.

Further, this individual in the course of their work will be expected to identify data and information opportunities and improvements in current processes and bring these to the IM/IT Managers.

Skills Required:

Extensive and demonstrable experience in Information and/or Data Management, preferably in the Oil & Gas industry, is a must.
Strong communication and business presentation skills necessary.
Strong business analysis, experience scoping projects, writing charters and investment proposals and information management plans is desired.
Academic background in a technical field preferred especially geology or engineering preferred.
